Selling your pre-loved items online is a great way to generate some cash quickly. All you need is a great internet connection, some old items, a trusty cellphone and you're good to go!
Hopefully, this post can give you more tips regarding secondhand selling and making sure your items are sold immediately.
#1 Do some research about what you're selling and estimate its fair market value.
You're probably selling something that had been given to you by a family member, a friend, or an old lover. Chances are, you won't know too much about that item.
It helps to run a quick Google search listing the item's specifications, the brand, the model, and how much its selling for right now. This way, you can determine how much it is worth now and estimate how much you might be able to sell it.
As a general rule, gadgets usually drop down a third of their original value in the first few months of usage.
When it comes to clothing, most preloved clothes don't stray far from their original value unless there are visible damages.
Google also helps. I mean, you never know if that rusty old brooch was actually a vintage piece and might fetch off a greater amount.
Plus people will tend to take you more seriously if you have greater knowledge about what you're posting up for sale and when you're able to answer any technical questions they might have.
#3 Download and use the right apps.
Most people in today's world are engrossed in their mobile phones. They do everything with their phones, and yes, that includes online thrift shopping.
The right platform varies with what you want to sell, so you want to make sure you know how to advertise your product on different social media platforms.
Finding the right platform is key in selling your preloved items. Buyers are already there. All you have to do is to reach out to them.
#4 Take captivating photos of your item.
We human beings are very visual creatures.
We're naturally drawn to beautiful things.
Sometimes, it's the picture that would sell your item for you.
Don't get me wrong, you don't need a DSLR camera or fancy lighting. Your mobile phone would do.
Just download some free photo-editing apps--I personally suggest Adobe Lightroom for editing your photo and PhotoGrid for framing and creating photo collages--and you're good to go.
Flat lay photos are all the rave right now. Simply lay your product on a clean table with great natural sunlight coming in, add in a few decorative pieces such as a plastic flower or a cute toy, and snap your picture!
It's as easy as that.
If what you're selling also includes its accessory items, take close up photos of them, too!
Proceed to edit them on your mobile phone and upload them online.
#5 Write engaging product descriptions
Read more: How to write engaging product descriptions.
Try to be as detailed and precise as possible with your product description or product listings.
If what your selling has a few dents and scratches, include them.
If it has some minor or major issues, include them, too.
Always remember to be honest in all of your transactions and dealings.
It won't do you any good to lie to potential buyers, especially in today's world where people are quick to screenshot and share their bad experiences with others.
You don't want your name to be tainted with wrongdoings.
#6. Specify your terms and conditions.
- Are you going to shoulder the shipping fee and other cost?
- Is the buyer going to shoulder the shipping fee and other cost?
- How many days will it take to have your product delivered?
- How much will it cost?
- Is your list price still negotiable?
- Should the buyers pay first?
- What's your mode of payment?
- What courier would you use for delivery?
- Would you go for a delivery or would you do meet-ups only?
These are some of the questions that your product listing has to answer.
It serves as an additional information for your buyers and it would also let people know you are handling this matter professionally; that you're serious and dependable.
This would also eliminate common questions that potential buyers might ask. So in the event that they would be buying your product, they wouldn't have to ask these basic questions over and over.
#7 Entertain questions. Be as honest as possible.
Once your item is posted up, people are going to contact you about your item.
Answer all of their questions as honestly as possible.
If you can, provide more pictures for them as additional proof.
Finalize your transactions with them and remember that a transaction isn't complete until your item has been delivered and received by your buyer.
So these are all the tips that I can give you, with regards to selling your pre-loved items online.
Like all things, research and common sense is the key.
Have fun selling! :)
